Celebrated throughout Europe, Maestro Pietro Rizzo comes from Italy to make his first appearance with SSV. Armenian-born pianist Nareh Arghamanyan, described by Musical America Magazine as a “major, major, major talent,” is especially renowned for Khachaturian’s fiery, expressive piano concerto, based in part on Armenian folk music. Brahms’s second (and favorite) symphony provides a dramatic contrast to close: a warm, richly textured, serenely happy work by the German master.
